Titans are gigantic bipedal war machines employed by the Imperium of Man. The smallest scout Titans (Warhound class) stand around 15 meters (50 feet) tall, while the largest battle Titans (Emperor class) reach up to 55 meters (180 feet). They are walking fortresses armed with immense firepower and protected by "void shield" energy fields.
Imperial Titans are maintained by the Collegia Titanica arm of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the semi-autonomous technological cult of the Imperium. Manufacturing a replacement to a lost Titan can take decades or even centuries, and each one is a valued relic, some having served since before the Horus Heresy 10,000 years earlier.
Titans are generally manned by a crew consisting of a single Princeps, assisted by Moderati, Tactical Officer, Chief Engineer, an engineering crew, and Servitors. The number of each is dependent on the type of Titan.
A Princeps commands his Titan through a neural link to the Titan's "spirit," controlling the Titan's movements through his thoughts. The Titan becomes an extension of him; when damaged, he feels pain, when victorious, he feels elation. This link grows so strong that his mental health will slowly deteriorate when unlinked. Because of the immense power of a Titan's spirit, the Princeps must also possess the strongest of wills to survive such a link. He can assume direct control of any system, though it is usually aiming and fire control that is taken. The link may grow so strong that the Princeps becomes physically integrated into the Titan, and cannot be removed until he dies.
Warlord Battle TitanEditThe Warlord is a large class battle Titan. It is the most widely employed, numerous and versatile Titan class deployed by the Collegia Titanica, and is second in power and size only to the rare Emperor (Imperator and Warmonger) class Titans. A Warlord Titan is approximately 33 meters (108 feet) tall and armed with four heavy weapons (two arm-mounted, two hull-mounted).
The Titan featured in Space Marine is of the Warlord class, named Invictus and commanded by Princeps Enoch.
